ASAUK 28th Biennial Conference

The 28 biennial ASAUK conference will be held from 8-10 September 2020 at Cardiff University on the Cathays campus. The ASAUK 2020 conference will celebrate the diversity and interdisciplinarity of the study of Africa.
ASAUK conferences have establishes a reputation as supportive and collaborative events and are a key event for scholars working on and in Africa. They bring together scholars of Africa from a broad range of disciplines and from around the world, they are attended by scholars at all stages of their careers.
The conference hub will be the Viriamu Jones (VJ) Gallery in Main building, Cardiff University.
For the 2020 conference we have 43 thematic streams on a range of topics that will surely attract interest from a broad range of stakeholders and delegates.
At the conference, the ASAUK will recognise and celebrate outstanding scholarship and contributions to the study of Africa with the Audrey Richards Prize for best doctoral thesis in African Studies successfully examined in a British institution of higher education during 2018-2019. The closing date for nominations for the Audrey Richards Prize is Tuesday 31 March. There have been over 80 publications nominated for The Fage and Oliver monograph prize for best scholarly monograph on Africa published (or translated into English) and distributed in the United Kingdom. The Distinguished Africanist Award for an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the field of African studies. The closing date for nominations for the Distinguished Africanist Award is Tuesday 31 March.
The winners of the Fage and Oliver Prize 2020; Audrey Richards Prize and the Distinguished Africanist Award will be presented at the Conference Dinner on Wednesday 9 December at Cardiff City Hall
This conference provides a unique opportunity to connect with hundreds of Africanists, academics with a particular interest in the continent, development specialists, policy makers and others. The organisers are committed to engaging with participants through an energising and informative programme and facilitating networking opportunities
Registration for the ASAUK 2020 conference will be open w/c 16 March and close on Friday 31 July 2020.
Current ASAUK / RAS members can register at their applicable member rate (below). Student, Early Career Researchers (within a three-year period from the award of their doctorate) and Africa scholars are also able to register on reduced prices.
Non-members of the ASAUK / RAS can choose to register at a non-member rate or choose to become members first. Please note that becoming a member before the conference is a more cost-effective option. ASAUK 2020 Conference pricing
The conference registration fee includes a ‘Grab and Go’ lunch, mid-morning and mid-afternoon refreshments. It does not include accommodation, the Conference Dinner or ‘A Taste of Wales’ alternative lunch.
