On Tuesday 22nd March the RAS launched the report of the Africa APPG Inquiry into Africa in the British Schools Curriculum.

The Inquiry’s chair, Lord Paul Boateng, has also published an article about the report in African Arguments.
The report collected extensive evidence that the current British school curriculum leaves most children with little knowledge or mistaken impressions of Africa. This is detrimental to all pupils, whatever their origin, and important to remedy. There are some encouraging recent developments, but the report recommends a number of simple, feasible steps that will enable a more accurate picture of Africa in all its diversity to be included in the curriculum. It encourages all actors – schools, teachers, exam boards, OFSTED, publishers, communities, government – to implement them swiftly.
