THE ASAUK NEWSLETTER ARCHIVE COLLECTION  (1996 – PRESENT)

Dr Simon Heap has been newsletter producer and editor of the ASAUK Newsletter, which has had an astonishing print run of since 2004 under his editorship. He took over from the inaugural editor, Professor Douglas Johnson, who started the newsletter in 1996. This quarterly bulletin performs a number of functions. First it does keep members informed of upcoming ASAUK and UK-focused Africa related events. It also produces reports of recent activities in the UK  African studies world. Most importantly it might be argued it presents obituaries of eminent Africanists with a UK connection who have been recently deceased. These newsletters selves have over the years due both to their content but also the consistency of their production and focus become an archive in their own right. Under this tab you can browse all past copies of the newsletter from 1996 to the most recent. They do truly give an snapshot of the life of Africanists and African affairs in British academe from the late 20th to the early 21st century.
